Brock’s Story

BrockBrock is a 15 month old little boy. Shortly after birth he was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder that is fatal in a very short time.

Fortunately, that diagnosis proved to be incorrect. It is still unknown what the exact nature of his neuromuscular disorder is, but he and his family continue to be followed by a wide range of specialists for his complex medical needs both here at Akron Children’s and at Nationwide Children’s in Columbus. Despite her desire to, Brock’s mother, Tracey, is unable to work outside of their home because of the demands of his care and the time needed to get to and from his numerous appointments, they commute about 45 minutes to and from the hospital.

Tracey and her husband Anthony are resourceful, seeking out assistance where they are able in their community but have benefited from the Carina Gift Card Fund as well. Tracey has asked for assistance with occasional cafeteria vouchers and gas gift cards to help with the excessive cost associated with many doctors’ appointments.

Tracey shared with us, “each one of the items, even the smallest of things, makes the biggest difference when you’re going through such a hard time. There are people and services, like Palliative Care, that help out and make the biggest difference, but they can’t do it without the help of the Carina Gift Card Fund.”
